How it works
How to remove background musicand keep the voice
Drop your file
Audio or video, or record from your mic. Try a file up to 3 minutes long without signing in.
Pick a strength
Up to 50%, the music is lowered around your own voice. Above 50%, only the voice is rebuilt, so the least music is left.
Listen, then download
Flip between before and after. WAV or MP3, same sample rate and channels as your file.
What it handlesand where it struggles
Works well on
- Interviews recorded where music was playing
- Festivals, fairs and events with music from the speakers
- Vlogs with a song playing in a shop or café
- Clips where you want the voice alone, to put new music under it
Harder cases
- There is no separate music control. A lower strength leaves more music, along with more of the noise.
- Singing. Shhh is built for speech, so sung parts may come out changed or quieter.
- Songs with loud vocals. Singing is close to speech, so some of it may stay.
Tips
To keep a little music, put the original very low under the clean voice in your editor. Its noise comes back too, at that level.
Adding new music in an editor? Download WAV so the voice keeps full quality through the edit.
For a video, drop the MP4 or MOV itself. The picture comes back untouched.
Can I keep the music and only make it quieter?
Not with a separate control yet. A lower strength leaves more of the music, along with more of the noise. To keep a little music, put the original very low under the clean voice in your editor; its noise comes back too, at that level.
Can it separate the vocals from a song?
It is not made for songs. Shhh is tuned for speech, and singing may come out changed.
Does it work on video?
Yes. Drop an MP4 or MOV and you get the same video back, with the music taken out of the sound. The picture is copied as is, never re-encoded.
Will my voice sound robotic?
That is what the strength slider is for. Up to 50%, Shhh does not rebuild your voice at all: it uses its own result as a guide and turns down everything in the original recording that is not your voice. Above 50%, it moves toward a rebuilt studio voice. If the result sounds processed, pull the slider back.
Is it free?
