How to remove echofrom a recording

What it handlesand where it struggles

Harder cases
- Very long echo, like a church or a stairwell. It gets shorter, but may not disappear.
- A mic far from the speaker. More of the voice has to be rebuilt, and at high strength a sound can come out different. Listen to the preview.
- Reverb added on purpose, like a stage or a music effect. Shhh cannot tell it from room echo and takes it out too.
Tips
For echo, start at 100% in the preview, then compare with a lower setting.
Soft things near the mic, like curtains, a sofa or a duvet over a chair, cut echo more than any software can.
Keep the mic close. Each time you halve the distance, the room gets quieter in the recording.

Echo or reverb: what is the difference?
Echo is a distinct repeat of your voice. Reverb is the wash of many reflections from the walls. In everyday recordings both come from the room, and Shhh handles them the same way: it keeps the voice and takes the room out.
Will my voice sound robotic?
That is what the strength slider is for. Up to 50%, Shhh does not rebuild your voice at all: it uses its own result as a guide and turns down everything in the original recording that is not your voice. Above 50%, it moves toward a rebuilt studio voice. If the result sounds processed, pull the slider back.
Does it work on video and call recordings?
Yes. Drop an MP4 or MOV and you get the same video back with clean audio. For a call recording, download the file and drop it in. Call apps often compress the sound, so try the preview first.
Can it change the length or add sounds?
The length, no. The cleaned file is exactly as long as the original, sample for sample, so it lines up with your video or your edit. At high strength the voice is rebuilt, and on very hard recordings a sound can come out different, so listen to the preview before you clean the whole file.
